Today’s entrepreneurial spotlight is on Honeecakes Bakery™ and its CEO, Ms. Andrea Dashiell. She is a dear friend of mine and a HECK of a baker. My personal favorite from Honeecakes is the Pistachio Cake (aka Green Cake). It seriously has some unicorn milk mixed in it and I am a better person with every bite. Ok…I’m done now.
♦When was Honeecakes founded?
Honeecakes Bakery was founded on November 17, 2004; however, we obtained our LLC in 2013.
♦What was your inspiration for starting Honeecakes?
I took an entrepreneurship course and an elective at Suitland High School. When our teacher informed us that we each needed a business idea, baking was a no brainer for me. I used the saying “You get more bees with honey” but a creative spin to it and alas, Honeecakes Bakery was born.
♦What has been your inspiration to keep Honeecakes going?
Honestly, the support i receive on a daily basis… it’s been amazing! Seeing how much potential Honeecakes has, how a few years ago I didn’t even have a website now I’m teaching baking seminars to youth mentoring groups. There’s so much I’d like to learn: wedding cakes, luxury cakes… we’re just getting started!
♦What’s been your greatest lesson from entrepreneurship?
That there will be times where no one sees your vision but you; keep pressing forward.
♦Where do you see Honeecakes in ten years?
In a storefront working on a second location! With celebrity clientele, and still teaching baking lessons to youth groups in the midst of it all.
♦What is the best piece of advice you have received on your entrepreneurial journey?
I have two. 1. The passion you have for your business always reflect in the quality of your work. and 2. Follow up with every networking connection you make.
